Bo Bengtson became involved in Sighthounds as a teenager in 1959, first in his native Sweden and since 1980 in the U.S. He has owned, bred and shown primarily Whippets. His Bohem “kennel,” although never numbering more than a handful of dogs, has accounted for at least 30 Best in Show winners at all-breed and specialty shows and more than 130 champions in the U.S., Europe, Australia and Asia.
Bo was approved to judge all Sighthounds by the FCI in 1976 and is now approved to judge breeds in seven of the 10 FCI groups and Best in Show. He was first approved by AKC to judge Sighthounds in the late 1970s, and by the KC (U.K.) to award CCs several breeds.
His judging appointments include Crufts and Westminster (twice each), the FCI World Show (four times) and other major shows around the world. He has judged about 100 specialty shows for Sighthounds as well as for a number of other breeds.
Bo is the author of several books, including the award-winning "The Whippet" and the monumental reference work "Best in Show - the World of Show Dogs and Dog Shows" (over 650 pages and 700 illustrations), which received the IBP Benjamin Franklin award, a unique honor for a dog book.
